Warren McCarren is the Senior Rural Specialist of the Greene Soil & Water Conservation District.  Along with his wife, he owns a farm in the Caesar Creek Lake area. He has over 30 years of experience in this position.  Warren graduated from Wilmington College in 1992 where he earned a B.S in Agriculture.  Upon graduating from college, he began his career with soil and water districts as a 319 Grant Coordinator in Clinton and Highland Counties.  In 1994 he was offered a career with Greene SWCD, where he has remained.

Warren primarily works with the agricultural producers in Greene County to help them manage and improve their natural resources.  Given Greene County’s agricultural diversity, this may range from a non-traditional high tunnel operation raising specialty crops or a producer managing several thousand acres of traditional corn and soybean farm.  He helps producers with livestock management concerns, drainage, soil erosion or pond siting.  Warren can help identify resource concerns and design solutions to fix these issues as well.   Through a cooperative working agreement Warren also works closely with NRCS to help implement current Farm Bill programs where they apply.

The Senior Rural Specialist is an employee of the Greene Soil & Water Conservation District and is authorized by Section 940 of the Ohio Revised Code. The employee is under the direct responsibility of the Board of Supervisors with the daily supervision and guidance of the District Director. The Senior Rural Specialist will, as a member of the District staff, carry out the general goals, policies, and objectives of the Greene Soil & Water Conservation District. This employee will be primarily responsible for managing the Rural Team and assisting our Federal Partners and all Greene County Residents. The person in this role must be a self-starter and have the ability to set, maintain, and manage the Rural Team appointments without direct supervision from the District Director. The Senior Rural Specialist will provide natural resource technical assistance to all District Cooperators with the evaluation, survey, and installation of conservation practices on their land.
