Farmstead Windbreaks or Shelterbelts

Windbreaks are rows of trees and shrubs positioned to buffer the winter winds and drop snow in certain places, provide shelter for wildlife, and often add beauty to the landscape.

Below is a picture of the Paul Mears windbreak (left) which was awarded the Iowa Izaak Walton and Greene County Windbreak award for 2001 as well as the Carla & Steve Haupert windbreak (right) selected Greene County Award winner for 2004.
